The Bribery Act (2010) became law in July 2011 and it didn't take long for the first offender to be prosecuted under the legislation.
As reported on the BBC website (see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-15689869) court official Munir Yakub Patel, aged 22, was sentenced to six years imprisonment for taking bribes not to load information onto a court database system which in turn led to some offenders escaping prosecution. More prosecutions are expected to follow and it is likely companies and company directors will be prosecuted as well as individuals.
Every organisation is required to take adequate procedures to avoid bribery offences and one part of these adequate procedures involves training employees in their responsibilities under the new legislation.
